THE MAX WEINBERG BIG BAND TOUR

Max Weinberg builds upon his celebrated career with The Max Weinberg Big Band tour in October and early November of 2010. Bruce Springsteen's long-time E Street Band drummer and the leader for 17 years of what Tom Shales of the Washington Post has called "...the best band in late night television," leads a muscular, swinging 15-piece big band that continues the traditions established by Max's musical heroes including Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Doc Severinsen, and Maynard Ferguson. The band is comprised of a three-piece rhythm section — piano, bass and drums — and a horn section consisting of five saxophones, four trumpets and three trombones. Recent concerts this summer include performances at Count Basie Theater and the Newport Beach Summer Jazz Series.

An intuitive drummer with powerful yet controlled playing, Weinberg has showcased his talent with Springsteen and the E Street Band for 36 years. In addition, he has performed with Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, B.B. King, Sting, Tom Jones, Ringo Starr (on Ringo's drums!), Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard – and even Isaac Hayes in a rousing version of "Shaft." He is a past winner of Playboy's Pop and Jazz Music Poll as Best Drummer, as well as Rolling Stone Magazine's Critics Poll as Best Drummer. Complementing his legendary musical career, he authored "The Big Beat: Conversations with Rock's Great Drummers," making an important contribution to rock literature. The book is a compilation of a series of interviews he conducted over two years with his favorite drummers from different eras including Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones, Levon Helm, and Elvis' original, longtime drummer D.J. Fontana.
